Why You Should Never Get on Your Own Roof
Most roofers agree that homeowners should never get on their roofs and, even more importantly, they should never perform any work up there. Here is why:
- Lots of risks – climbing up to the roof on a ladder, stepping from the ladder onto the roof and moving around on the roof requires good physical condition, excellent balance, the complete lack of fear from heights and experience in determining whether it is safe to make the next step on the roof. If any of these requirements are left unmet, moving on the roof becomes very dangerous;
- The lack of proper safety gear and not enough knowledge about using the gear correctly – helmets, harnesses, work shoes, gloves and googles are all essential components of a roofer’s personal safety equipment. Most homeowners, however, consider these items unimportant, which also makes DIY roof work very dangerous;
- Lack of professional knowledge – even the roofing tasks that seem easy and straightforward have at least a few tricks and the selection of the right materials to use is not easy either. Most DIYers do not possess enough knowledge and experience in the field to be able to perform the proposed tasks correctly.
