How Often Should You Replace Your Roof
There are many features that set apart roofing materials, one of them being lifespan. Each roofing material is warranted for a specific amount of time – here is what you can expect of the most common materials:
- Slate – the heavy natural stone might not be suitable for buildings that cannot support the high load, but it is surely one of the longest-lived roofing material on the market, with a lifespan of over 100 years;
- Clay and cement tiles – these materials are also heavy and durable, able to protect your building for 75-100 years;
- Wood – though not recommended for wet climates and demanding in terms of maintenance, the roofs made from cedar, redwood and other resistant, dense wood varieties can live for 70-100 years;
- Metal – these materials are made from strong alloys that are resistant to high winds, pests, fire, excessive moisture as well as to the weight of snow.
- Asphalt shingles – this category can be divided into multiple classes in terms of durability.
